Gotha G.IV

The Gotha G.IV plane was a German bomber constructed during the First World War. The photos represent a plastic model of a German plane won by Poles in January 1919 and used later during the Polish-Soviet war. The plane was designated 100/17 and flew until August 30, 1920. That day, it was damaged during landing and has not been repaired. The model was awarded at the 9th Competition of Cardboard and Plastic Models in Świdnik, Poland in April 2015.

The Gotha G.IV plane was produced from February 1917 until the end of the First World War. It had a wooden truss structure covered with canvas and plywood. The exceptions were rudders and engine nacelles. The rudders were welded from steel pipes and were covered with fabric. The nacelles were made of duralumin sheets. There is no precise data on the number of pieces produced. About 250 copies (including all versions) left the factories.

Bombers were used for air raids on France and England, including night raids. The bombs were being attached to locks placed under the observer's site and under the lower lobe (visible in photo 4).

The crew consisted of 3 people, an observer, pilot and gunner. The shooter could shoot not only upwards. Thanks to the tunnel made in the center of the fuselage, he could fire at the space under the plane (photos 9 and 10).
