Plastic model of the French Somua S35 tank

The photos represent the plastic model of the French Somua S35 medium tank captured and used by the Germans. The model was built in 1:35 scale from the Tamiya kit. Zimmerit on the model was made by the modeller himself, based on the photo.

The first Somua S35 tanks were delivered to military units in 1937. By mid-1940, about 450 copies had been produced. Further production was prevented by the defeat of France in the Second World War.

The hull of the tank consisted of 4 cast sections joined together by bolts. The maximum thickness of the hull armor was 45 mm (1⅘ in). The 190 HP (140 kW) 8-cylinder petrol V-engine was used for the drive. The crew consisted of 3 people.

After defeating France, the Germans captured over 300 of the Somua S35 tanks. They handed over some of them to their allies. The Germans modified the copies they used. They also added a fourth crew member.
