Plastic model of the SU-85 anti-tank gun
The plastic model of the Soviet-made SU-85 anti-tank self-propelled gun was made in 1:35 scale. The vehicle, the model of which is in the photos, was probably taken over by the Germans. The work was presented at the 12th International Modeling Festival Bytom 2015 in Poland.
The vehicle was built in 1943. The chassis of the T-34 tank was a base of the construction. Thanks to this, the vehicle achieved sufficient speed to be able to cooperate with tanks on the battlefield. The vehicle was equipped with an 85 mm (3.34 in) anti-aircraft gun, which had a high rate of fire needed to destroy fast-moving targets. Projectiles fired from it were able to penetrate 102 mm (4 in) thick armor at a distance of 1,000 meters (0.62 mi).
The Su-85 had a welded armor from plates with a thickness of 20 (⅘ in) to 45 mm (1⅘ in).
About 2,050 copies were produced in the years 1943-1944.
