Santisima Trinidad
A wooden model of the Santisima Trinidad sailing ship was made in 1:90 scale. The work was presented at the 11th International Festival of Plastic Reduction Models Bytom 2014.
Santisima Trinidad was a Spanish sailing ship of the line. She was launched in 1769. Santisima Trinidad was the largest warship in the world at the time. She was another of the ships of the same name.
Originally, the ship was equipped with 120 guns, and after rebuilding in 1796 - 140. However, their number was quickly reduced to 136. The size of the ship and the weight of her armament, made she was slow and poor maneuverable.
At the end of her service, Santisima Trinidad took part in the famous "last great battle of sailing ships", which took place near Cape Trafalgar. The English fleet fought there with the Franco-Spanish fleet. During the battle Santisima Trinidad fought, inter alia, with HMS Victory, a plastic model of which is also placed in the gallery. In the battle, the sailing ship suffered severe damage and was subjected to the English. Two days after the battle, she sank in a heavy storm on October 23, 1805, while being towed to the port of Gibraltar.
