M/s Alna

A plastic model of the m/s Alna bulk carrier was made in 1:500 scale. The work was presented at the 11th International Festival of Plastic Reduction Models Bytom 2014.

The bulk carrier was one of the ships to replace the old Liberty ships were being built during the war. Seven ships from the "Neoliberty" series were named after Polish coal mines. M/s Szczygłowice Mine was launched in 1969. She transported coal, coke, apatite, metal ores and grain in her holds. The ship sailed mainly between European ports.

The ship sailed under the Polish flag for 29 years. In 1998 she was sold and then operated for a year under the Maltese flag as m/s Alna. The ship was renamed m/s Sorbo in 1999. Seven years later, she was sent to India's Alang Beach, which is one of the largest scrap yards in the world. Her demolition began on November 11, 2006.
