Plastic model of the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier
The plastic model of the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier was assembled from a Trumpeter kit in a 1:350 scale. Railings, figures and on-board vehicles come from ready-made sets from other manufacturers.
Many elements of the plastic model were made from scratch
The entire interior of the model below deck was made from scratch and illuminated.
The modeller cast additional aircraft from resin and made them with folded wings. He also made the decals himself to represent the aircraft carrier from Vietnam in 1967.
The weapons transport carts, weapons, pallets, baskets with life rafts, the ammunition elevator at the rear of the superstructure and many other things on board were also made from scratch by the modeller.
The model is 80 cm (31.5 in) long. The modeller has been building the model for 4 years.
USS Intrepid
Construction of the aircraft carrier began in December 1941. Two years later, the ship was commissioned. During World War II, the USS Intrepid took part in combat in the Pacific.
In 1947, the USS Intrepid was withdrawn from service for 5 years. She was then adapted to operate jet aircraft. From then on it served in the Atlantic and Mediterranean with a short break from 1966 to 1969. She was then assigned to the Pacific Fleet and took part in the Vietnam War.
In 1974, the USS Intrepid was decommissioned, and since 1982 she has been mooring in New York and serves as a museum ship.
