Diorama entitled "Crossing the Rhine in 1945"

The full name of the diorama is "21nd Army, 373rd Tank Transport Company, Crossing the Rhine in 1945". It was made in a 1:35 scale.

The Rhine is one of the longest rivers in Europe. The beginning of the river is in the Alps in Switzerland. In its further course, it forms the border between France and Germany, and the outlet to the North Sea is in the Netherlands.

The Rhine River was the last of the major natural obstacles on the Allies' road to Berlin. Its crossing took place between March 23 and 27, 1945.

There are plastic models of the American M19 tank transporter from the Merit kit and the LCVP landing craft from the Italeri kit on the diorama. The appearance of the barge was slightly changed according to the photo on the basis of which the model was built. The photo was found from the Internet. The base supporting the barge on the transporter was made of wood on its own.

The M19 tank transporter consisted of the Diamond T 980 (M20) truck and a 24-wheel trailer (M9).

The truck was powered by a 14.7 liter (897 in³) 6-cylinder diesel engine with a displacement of 138 kW (185 hp). The drive was transmitted through two gearboxes, one with 4-speed and the other with 3-speed. Thanks to this combination, the vehicle had 12 forward and 3 reverse gears and was capable of carrying the heaviest tanks that existed at the time.
