Diorama with the Sherman Firefly tank
The photos show a diorama with a plastic model of the Sherman Firefly tank made on a 1:35 scale. The plastic model was assembled from a Dragon kit, and the resin figures come from Alpine Miniatures. The camouflage nets visible on the tank were made of a resin kit of the Czech Black Dog company.
The Sherman Firefly was a British modification of the American M4 Sherman tank. The modification consisted in replacing the original gun with a British 17-pounder anti-tank gun, which was able to penetrate the armour of all German vehicles then encountered on the front.
One consequence of installing a larger gun in the tank turret was the resignation from a gunner of a machine gun mounted in the hull. The space he freed up was used for ammunition for the new gun, which were longer than the original ones.
Inside the tank there was lack of place for the radio, which had to be moved outside and placed in an armoured box at the rear of the turret. Another modification was an additional hatch which was made at the top of the turret. There was only one in the original Sherman.
The crew consisted of 4 people, while in the American Sherman there were 5.
Production of the Sherman Firefly tank began in 1944. By the end of the war, approximately 2,200 copies were produced or rebuilt.
