Wittmann's Last Tiger

The diorama was made on the basis of photos of a destroyed German tank which was commanded by Michael Wittmann. He is being considered one of the best tank commander who involved in the Second World War. Due to the limited space on the diorama, the distances between the models have been reduced. In fact, the turret was farther away from the tank, and the hull of the tank farther from the road.

Wittmann was killed with the entire crew on August 8, 1944 near Saint-Aignan-de-Cramesnil in Normandy (France). The tank was hit from the rear, to the top of the hull. The projectile hit just below the turret, and caused an explosion of the ammunition that killed the crew and tore the turret off.

A plastic model of the Tiger tank was built from the Academy kit and enriched with photo-etched parts from Aber. The modeller made the interior of the turret from the scratch.

The second machine is the Sherman Firefly tank which was built from the Dragon kit. This is a model of one of several dozen Sherman tanks belonging to the Polish Armed Forces in the West during World War II.

Here you can read the note about Wittmann's very famous exploit and see photos of the cardboard model of the A27M Mk VIII Cromwell IV tank.
