Knight and his horse

The bust of the knight was made of resin in 1:10 scale.

Some interesting facts about the horse:

  • A horse can carry a weight equal to 30% of its weight,
  • Probably the height of the medieval horses (at the withers) ranged from 120 to 150 cm (4-5 ft), and their weight from 300 to 450 kg (661-992 lb),
  • A contemporary riding horse weighs 500-600 kg (1102-1323 lb), while a draft horse weighs 800 kg (1764 lb). There is a breed of horse whose adults weigh only 40 kg (88.2 lb) and are 75 cm tall (2.46 ft),
  • A knight had to have at least 3 horses. Apart from war horse, horses were also needed for riding and transporting belongings,
  • The cost of buying a horse for riding in London in the 13th century was as much as a craftsman's six-month earnings. Such a craftsman would have to work 6 days to earn the day's cost of maintaining a horse.
