Mongolian Warrior

The bust represents on the photos received a distinction at the 12th International Festival of Plastic Reduction Models Bytom 2014.

The main weapons in the military of the Mongol Empire (13th century) were the reflex bow and primitive white weapons. Mongolian warriors were masters of using the bow. Riding a horse, they were able to shoot accurately even backwards. This ability allowed to deal large losses also during the retreat.

The reflex bow is a laborious and complicated construction. The bow's limbs consisted of layers of wood and animal tendons glued together. The animal glue used to connect the individual layers remained flexible even after drying. The hooks for the bowstring were made of animal horns, and the bow main was reinforced with horn plates and bones. The production of such a weapon took several months, but its range was greater than other bows and was up to 500 meters (1640 ft).

The average soldier of the empire wore a quilted wool jacket and a fur cap. Judging by the clothes, the person whose bust is shown in the photo may have belonged to the guard of the great khan. The clothing and armament of this formation was financed from the money of the great khan, unlike the rest of the army, which was not paid at all.
