Figurine of the Tuareg - 1916

The figurine of the Tuareg warrior was made in the 1:32 scale (54 mm - 2.16 in) from the set by Andrea Miniatures. The palm tree was made by a modeller from scratch. It was made of string, wire, gypsum and pigeon feathers.

This is probably what the warriors fighting against the French colonial invasion looked like this at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. They were even resisting the French invasion at the end of the 19th century. However, in the second decade of the 20th century, they had to succumb to the military superiority of the colonizers.

The Tuaregs are nomadic people living in northwestern Africa, moving around the Sahara and its outskirts. In the past, they were not only pastoralists, like most nomads, but also controlled trade routes and actively engaged in slavery. It was not only slave trade, but also their capturing. They cought slaves by organizing raids, mainly in southern West Africa.

The Tuareg people don't have their own state. They live in areas belonging to several countries. They started independence uprisings many times, but to this day without success.
