Resin bust of Landsknecht
The Landsknechts were mercenaries who fought in various armies of Europe in the period of late Middle Ages. They used to form infantry units. They came from German-speaking countries. Them activity were at the end of the 15th and the entire 16th century.
Bright colors and ornaments, such as the colored feathers on the hats, were a characteristic feature of the Landsknechts' clothes.
They stood out of their courage in combat. They used to plunder the occupied territories, during which they were cruel to the local population. The most famous example of their bestiality was the sacking of Rome in 1527 in the company of Spanish and Italian mercenaries. It is estimated that the city's population decreased by half and the city was destroyed.
