Resin figurine of a Senegalese soldier

The figurine was made of resin in 1:30 scale from the HF Sigilla set. It represents a Senegalese tirailleur, a trumpeter, from the French army during the First World War, 1914-1915.

Senegalese tirailleurs were the colonial infantry corps of the French army. The first troop of Senegalese tyraliers was formed in 1857. Later, this name was being used for local infantry recruited in various colonies, not necessarily in Senegal.

In mid-1914, there were 21 battalions of Senegalese tirailleurs, all stationed in Africa. After the outbreak of World War I, some of them were moved to Europe.

The tyralier is a type of infantry array. Soldiers walk several meters apart. At the beginning of World War I, the tyralier was the basic fighting array of the infantry.
